The banns (intention to marry) will be read out in the parishes of the parties for three consecutive Sundays prior to the marriage. Then the rector will give a certificate of banns. There will be a fee for this. The rector will advise you of which type of licence is appropriate and how to go about obtaining the correct one. There are two types - Ordinary Licence or Special Licence. You should give your rector enough notice so that the requirements for marriage can be fulfilled in order for you to get married.
